Mangy Mutt Dog Haven's Mission Statement: To provide a safe, clean, caring and fun, family oriented salon offering quality, convenient and affordable grooming service for pets, while educating pet owners about their pets and how best to care for them.

The professional pet groomers at Mangy Mutt Dog Haven are serious about the care of your pets, are school certified to groom all breeds of dogs and are trained in Pet First Aid. An appointment is necessary for this service, and 24 hour cancellation notice is required for pre-set appointments. We groom all breeds and all sizes of dogs.
The following services are included in the Full-Service Dog Grooming:
Warm bath and personalized blow-dry with brush-out
Cage dryers are not used at Mangy Mutt Dog Haven. Your dog is with a caring and attentive staff member at all times
Ear cleaning
Nail clipping/filing
Sanitary clip
Coat clipping and styling if requested/needed
Trim hair around the feet and pads
Anal gland expressing
De-matting (within limits), or cut-down to remove mats
Flea/tick removal and flea bath if needed
Free nail clipping between appointments for our regularly scheduled clients
Mangy Mutt Dog Haven never administers medication and rarely uses muzzles. If a dog needs to be muzzled for an activity, such as nail trimming, we will do so, but never for more than 5-10 minutes. If we cannot accomplish the task within that timeframe, then we will not complete it. We will never groom a pet that needs to be muzzled for an extended period of time, or needs to be sedated to unconsciousness. Your veterinarian's office would be an appropriate place for grooming if either of these situations describes your pet.
The cost for our full-service pet grooming depends upon the breed and the condition of its coat and what is required to complete the grooming. Basically, the price depends upon the time it takes us to groom your pet. When you and your dog arrive for your appointment, we will gather a history on your dog and discuss it's grooming needs. We should be able to provide you with a timeframe for your pet's grooming, and will obtain the best phone number to call you when your dog's grooming is complete.
If your dog is well socialized with other dogs, we allow open socialization without crating your dog. We do have crates on-hand to use for sanitary and safety reasons, but we prefer it if our dog clients enjoy their time with us and eagerly come back for their next appointment.Full-Service Pet Grooming

Nail Trimming
Nail trimming is a standard part of our professional grooming and is included in the price of the grooming.
We also offer nail trimming to walk-in and Self-Serve clients;
No appointment is necessary for nail trimming
Mangy Mutt Dog Haven gives all of our nail clients their own club card, buy 5 trims and get the 6th for free
All nail trimming clients get a Lei
Walk-in nail trimming is $6.00*
Nail trimming with a DIY bath is $5.00*
Nail trimming between regular grooming appointments (for our regularly scheduled grooming clients) is free.
We trim cat's nails, and also trim guinea pig nails!
As many of you know, trimming a dogs nails can be difficult. Many dogs allow us to easily trim their nails. Others are not so sure they want us to touch their feet at all. There are many ways we work with your dog to accomplish the trimming when they resist:
We use a second person to rub the dogs ears or help hold them while they talk calmly to them
Some dogs can be distracted with treats. We have clients who bring in peanut butter, sliced hot dogs or other dog treats which keep the dog happy while we quickly accomplish the nail trim
Sometimes we lay the dog on it's side and clip the nails while petting and holding the dog
If necessary, we will use a muzzle – but we NEVER muzzle a dog for more then 5-10 minutes.
We will not trim nails on a dog that we feel is a danger to our staff or to itself. A dog that thrashes and tries to escape can easily hurt itself and will be better served in a veterinarian's office.

Self-Serve Pet Bathing
When you think about bathing your dog, what are your reasons for putting it off?
You can't get your dog in the tub
It's too messy and clean-up takes longer than the bathing
It kills your back and knees
You try it outside, but your dog runs away, or worse yet, you get him bathed and then he rolls in the dirt
The water outside is too cold
The list goes on and on -- but our Self-service negates all of these complications.
Our tubs have a cut-out in back for large dogs to step in to
Our tubs are elevated, which saves your back from bending over
We have tray inserts for the smaller dogs, so you don't have to bend over
We provide all professional quality supplies; in fact everything we use as professional groomers is made available to our Do-it-Yourself clients.
We provide towels, aprons, brushes, combs, forced air, stand and hand dryers
All dogs receive a lei as a finishing touch
Best of all -- we clean-up the mess!
All Self-Serve clients receive a Mangy Mutt Dog Haven Club Card, buy 5 Self-Serve baths and the 6th one is free!

The base priceof our Self-service is $7.95. We strongly encourage our clients to visit us during the week when there is less traffic. There are no appointments taken for our Self-Service and service is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Mangy Mutt Dog Haven has 4 tubs and rarely experiences waiting time extending more than a few minutes. At Mangy Mutt Dog Haven, we always have professional groomers on hand to answer questions or show you how best to care for your dog. We'll also clip your dog's nails for $6.00* with our Self-Service.
No appointment is necessary for the Self-Service, but the last wash is 45 minutes before we close.
We love puppies and we strongly encourage our clients to bring their puppies in to the shop as soon as they can!
Stop for a minute and think about the number of groomings, baths, ear cleanings, nail trimmings, etc. that your puppy will experience throughout its lifetime. We cannot stress enough the importance of exposing your puppies to these experiences as early as possible.

  “I have taken my dog there twice so far since Smart Pets in Middletown closed, and I love them! They are very nice people, my dog can be kind of iffy with other dogs (I was worried at first about the open floor where the dogs get to interact) but by the time I got back, my dog was playing with the other dogs and getting along just fine. They groomed him perfectly, and he smelled great. This will definitely be my regular choice of groomers.”

  “I brought my dog to Mangy Mutt. First visit was great. Second visit, they groomed his tail so close that he was injured. I had to take him to the vet. I will not return. When I called them and told them of my cost with the vet. They just said they would note his chart not to shave him so close. No compensation whatsoever. That is not the way to run a business. I will not be returning.”

  “First let me state that MY ANIMALS ARE A PART OF MY FAMILY...therefore I am writing this in hopes that others read it and that the employee's at the MANGY MUTT take notice. You must change the fact that you state there are professional groomers at this facility. In the beginning of bringing my dogs there, there were a couple groomers that had experience and did the most awesome jobs, the receptionist were friendly, and atmosphere was great. NOW FOR THE BAD.. my recent visit was HORRIBLE, the groomer took my dog from me, told me that it would be a couple hours, and i was very specific on what I wanted done. WELL WHEN I CAME BACK 4 hours later, MY DOG WAS SHAVED!!! AND to top it off it had been cut in a few places. I told the manager about this and she was unconcerning. I asked for the owners name and number, knowing she works right next door and was told she doesnt have time. They tried to give me a gift card!!!! LIKE I AM GOING TO GO BACK TO A SHOP THAT HAS HARMED MY ANIMAL? This place is still in business and I have no clue as to HOW!!! Just know that your dog is not in a professionals care. The groomer that did my dog didnt even know the breed cut!!! I have to say that I will be looking for a new groomer and am sad that the doors on this establishment are still open.”

  “I will save you the time, money, and effort. Don't bother bringing your dogs to the Mangy Mutt. The place smells like old dirty dog, the groomers there used to be bathers or front desk with no experience. Let me ask you, do you really want your dog to be groomed by a person who has no experience at all? I surely don't. On top of all that, I took my two poodles there, and jacked up their hair, left marks all over, and worse of all there were fleas!! And let me tell you, THEY DID NOT have any when i dropped them off. Not worth the money at all.”

  “I have been taking to two dogs there since they opened, and at first was a pleasant experience. The people were very kind and my dogs seemed to love it there. One of the groomers was my favorite, and made my dog look perfect, and she was so sweet. Sadly to say, she left. I was upset that she left, but i figured to give another one to the groomers a chance. NEVER AGAIN!!! I saw one of the groomers be horrible to my dog, yelling at him, and even struck him. I tried to complain, but they just didn't seem to care. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN, and if you love your pets you'll do the same and never come back. The place is just going down hill.”

  “I have brought my two schnauzers to Mangy Mutt several times. For first few times I was very satisfied. However, the service has been getting worse with each visit. The last time the groomer buzzed an area of my dog's head which stood out like a soar thumb until the hair grew back in. Then this time they called me the day before the appointment to cancel because they did not have a groomer that could do a schnauzer cut. She said that my dog could be buzzed but that was about it! So needless to say, I rescheduled. Now at the appointment, I received a call from them stating that my two dogs could not be done because the groomer couldn't control them. I am not saying this is not possible, however, they have been to Mangy Mutt many times before without any problems. In fact, I had been told by one groomer that my dogs have been two of the easiest schnauzers to cut! They have been through dog training and know commands. DISAPPOINTED! Thought this place had potential but no!”
