  “Bad Experience
  
  We recently adopted a new dog from the Anne Arundel Animal Shelter, a year old medium-size Keeshond mix who is a very bright and affectionate dog who becomes stressed and agitated in the presence of other dogs. We think that his capture and retention at the county animal control shelter traumatized him somewhat (it’s dark, very noisy and pretty dismal) Since he quickly made friends with our neighbor’s Golden Retriever, we hoped that behavior training in the presence of other dogs might be worthwhile …so we signed on for behavior classes at Happy Tails Pet Resort. We explained to the instructor in some detail (twice actually) that he becomes agitated and noisily whines in the presence of strange dogs, and for that reason we wanted to enroll him in the classes. At no time, did the instructor indicate that this behavior could be insurmountable or cause his expulsion from class. I arrived early for class and Bingo calmly demonstrated that he would sit and ‘shake hands’ with non-verbal hand commands. When other dogs arrived, Bingo became tense and began whining and we were placed behind small cloth partitions meant to visually separate us from the 6 other dogs in the class. After 30 minutes of class, as I struggled to calm Bingo behind the partitions (and 3 very quick visits by the instructor), she told me I should take Bingo and leave, that further class training would be useless…that I should perhaps consider “private lessons”. She said she would talk to the kennel owner regarding a refund for the unused classes.
  
  It came as no surprise when the instructor called telling us that we would not receive a refund. She volunteered come to our home and give us 90 minutes of “private lessons”…no doubt on how to obey hand and verbal commands to sit, lay down and heel to lease, etc.…all of which Bingo already knows how to do. We feel that this was a total waste of our time and money ($125), which could have been avoided if the instructor had even listened or cared about our dog’s problem. He behaved exactly as we described beforehand and then was expelled from the class after 30 minutes without any substantive help from the instructor.
  
  If you want to throw time and money away, this is the place to do it.”
